The AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL is a breakthrough intraocular lens (IOL) that can provide patients a full range of vision -- near through distance -- and eliminate of greatly reduce their reliance on reading glasses or bifocals. The AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL is an artificial lens used in either elective lens replacement surgery or cataract surgery for patients with and without presbyopia--the natural age-related loss of ability to read without glasses.
Presbyopia occurs when the natural lens inside the eye looses its ability to change shape and eventually affects everyone, including whose who are nearsighted, farsighted, have cataracts, or even had perfect vision most of their life, until presbyopia hit.
Until recently, most patients had their vision improved with a monofocal IOL. Although the quality of their distant vision was excellent, nearly all patients needed reading glasses to see near or midrange objects, and many patients still required bifocals or trifocals. note above that near and midrange are blurred particularly to the end of the kitchen island.
